Cortney Davis is a registered nurse with more than 18 years experience in women’s health. She became interested in the Creighton Model of FertilityCare after becoming frustrated with the care she saw women receiving in traditional OB-GYN practices. Too often women, no matter their problems, were simply given the birth control pill, a one-size-fits-all response to a variety of issues. While the pill can provide a temporary “fix,” once the pill is stopped the underlying problem will return—not to mention that many women experience side effects from the pill or simply do not want to take it. She also observed that in traditional practices women with infertility were too often not helped to find and treat the cause of their infertility but instead were referred to IVF centers. “We too often failed women,” Davis says, “and so I began to search for alternative ways to help women understand and work with their natural cycles, both to achieve and to avoid pregnancy and to discover and treat gynecological problems such as PMS, recurrent miscarriage, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, endometriosis and a host of other issues. The Creighton Model is the answer to these and many other situations. The Creighton Model is a well researched, well documented and scientifically sound method of fertility care, all features that were especially important to me as a nurse. I also very much appreciate how the Creighton Model treats women as individuals–because there is no one cookie cutter approach to fertility care. The Creighton Model also has a medical component. If gynecological problems are discovered through the use of Creighton Model charting, our practitioners can refer women to physicians who are specially trained to respect fertility and treat the cause of problems, not just to mask them temporarily. Every woman should know about this method!”
Cortney graduated, with distinction, from the St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing School Creighton Model FertilityCare program in Nashua, N.H. She is certified as a FertilityCare Practitioner by the American Academy of FertilityCare Professionals (AAFCP). “The Creighton Model can be used by women of all backgrounds who desire to understand, monitor and honor their fertility and gynecological health.”
